    THE DIRECTOR

    Dr. Robin K. Milne

    (BA Hons Well., PhD ANU)

    A Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics at the University of Western Australia. He is an academic statistician with strong interests in applications of statistics. He has been an active member of the Department of Mathematics Consulting Group since 1978, and was earlier a Director of the group, now called the Statistical Consulting Group, for five of those years. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 formal statistical consulting reports.

     

    He has taught a wide variety of courses in probability and statistics, including most recently a course on industrial statistics and total quality management. He has specialist research interests in stochastic processes, including point processes, and in statistical inference.

    CONSULTING STAFF

    Mr. Kevin Murray

    (BSc Hons Liverpool, MSc London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine)

    Joined the statistical consulting group in 2001 after working as a biostatistician at a leading pharmaceutical company in the UK. Main areas of interest are all aspects of medical statistics, agriculturally related statisitics and applied statistics in general.  Has been involved in more than 150 statistical consulting projects, producing more than 50 formal reports and several publications from these projects.

    Mrs. Laura Firth

    (BSc Hons UWA)

    Joined the statistical consulting group as a part-time consultant in 2009. Prior to this she has worked for a private statistical consultancy and been involved with tutoring and lecturing for the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Her main areas of interest are in applied statistics.

    GROUP MEMBERS

    Prof. Adrian Baddeley

    (BA Hons ANU, PhD Cambridge)

    Professor of Statistics at the University of Western Australia. He is a leading academic statistician with 20 years experience in statistical consulting. He was awarded the 1995 Medal of the Australian Mathematical Society. Prof. Baddeley is a specialist in the statistical analysis of spatial data, including stereology, quantitative microscopy and digital image analysis. His recent consulting clients include mining companies, local government, and researchers in the life sciences.

    Dr Berwin A Turlach

    (PhD, DEA (Louvain-la-Neuve), Dipl-Math (Bonn))

    An academic statistician who has worked on a variety of applied statistical problems. Main interests include computational statistics and non-parametric statistics. Has been a member of the group since 2000 and was director in 2005-2006.

    A/Prof. Kaipillil Vijayan

    (MSc Kerala, PhD Indian Statistical Institute)

    Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Western Australia. He is well respected for his work in the areas of sample surveys and combinatorial mathematics and is a foudation fellow of the Institute of Combinatorics and its appliactions.

     

    A/Prof. Vijayan has more than 30 years experience in statistical consulting for various organisations. He is a specialist in design and analysis of experiments, sample surveys, multivariate problems and combinatorial optimisation.
